Alexander F. Au, MD

Alexander Au, MD, FACS, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained plastic and reconstructive surgeon with expertise in microsurgical breast reconstruction, advanced oncologic reconstruction, and aesthetic/cosmetic surgery of the face, breast, and body. Dr. Au is a member of the Penn Medicine | Virtua Health Cancer Program and serves as an associate professor of clinical surgery at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Dr. Au earned his medical degree at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. He completed general and plastic surgery residencies at Yale-New Haven Hospital and a fellowship in reconstructive microsurgery at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

Dr. Au specializes in advanced breast reconstruction techniques, including DIEP flap and implant-based reconstruction, nerve reconstruction, breast reduction, gynecomastia (enlarged breasts in men), and gender-affirming top surgery. His clinical practice also includes aesthetic surgery, such as breast augmentation, mastopexy, panniculectomy and abdominoplasty, and body contouring after massive weight loss.

Dr. Au has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters and presented research at medical conferences across the country. He is regularly recognized as a “top doctor” in regional magazines.
